Domaine de Château Pichon Longueville - Réserve de la Comtesse de Lalande - 2005 - Pauillac

Red wine

Description

The color presents a beautiful deep ruby hue, slightly evolved on the disk with brick-red highlights, typical of a great Bordeaux wine at its peak of maturity.
The nose is complex, refined, and perfectly blended. It reveals aromas of stewed black fruits and candied cherries, accompanied by elegant tertiary notes: undergrowth, cedar, blond tobacco, and fine leather. Hints of vanilla, mocha, and licorice complete a classic, deep, noble, and refined bouquet.
On the palate, the wine displays a supple and velvety texture, with tannins that have aged over time but are still present, providing an elegant structure. The overall effect is harmonious and balanced, with a beautiful freshness that supports a body that is still full of life.
The finish is long, with notes of graphite, sweet spices, and ripe black fruits, leaving a classic and distinguished Pauillac impression.

Know a bit more about the domain

Pichon Comtesse de Lalande, a Pauillac Grand Cru Classé, was born in 1850 from the split of Château Pichon Longueville. The portion assigned to Virginie de Lalande, a woman of character and wine enthusiast, bears her name. The elegance and finesse of its wines reflect this feminine influence, continued by May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, who ran the estate from 1978 to 2007.

Bought in 2007 by the Rouzaud family (Roederer Champagne), the estate has undergone an ambitious modernization process while respecting its heritage. It now covers 85 hectares, 76 of which are in production, with a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a small amount of Petit Verdot.

The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture, with practices increasingly oriented towards biodynamics, respecting the soil and biodiversity to preserve the purity of the Pauillac terroir.
