Domaine du Closel - Clos du Papillon - 1990 - Savennières

White wine

Description

The Clos du Papillon plot is wonderfully exposed to the Loire.
Its nose is rather discreet, with fruity aromas of apricot, citrus, and floral linden, enhanced with notes of almonds.
The palate is very fruity, fresh, with a nice richness, flavors of citrus, jasmine and fresh grass.
The long finish brings a nice bitterness and notes of toasted almond.

Know a bit more about the domain

The Vaults stronghold is mentioned in 1495 in our archives, with its vineyard, its orchard and its garden.
The Château des Vaults was built in the 17th century and remodeled in the 19th century. The park with its current design was created around 1850. The property was in the hands of figures from the upper bourgeoisie of Angers, then of the prestigious family of Nantes shipowners: the Walsh, Count of Serrant.
Later, in the 19th century, the family of Emmanuel de Las Cases, biographer of Napoleon, inherited the estate. Since that day, Château des Vaults and its vines have been managed by the descendants of Las Cases.
A line of women winegrowers was born, starting with Marque de Las Cases, wife of Closel. Her niece, Michèle Bazin de Jessey, developed the vineyard and created the operating company: Les Vins Domaine du Closel, with which she involved her two children.
It is currently his daughter, Evelyne de Pontbriand, who manages the property and who has greatly developed the wine tourism activities at the Château, exports and who has converted the estate to organic and now biodynamic agriculture.
