Château Mouton Rothschild - Baronne Philippe de Rothschild - 1999 - Pauillac 1er Cru classé

Red wine

Description

The 1999 Château Mouton Rothschild cuvée opens with an intense, deep, and brilliant purple color, heralding great richness. The fine, slow-moving tears attest to its density and structure.

On the nose, an impressive complexity is expressed from the very beginning. Aromas of ripe black fruits, such as blackcurrant and blackberry, intertwine with notes of cedar, tobacco, and graphite. Barrel aging brings a delicate touch of vanilla and dark chocolate, and an almost imperceptible floral note adds depth to this already beautifully composed bouquet.

On the palate, the attack is of great nobility, silky, and elegant. The wine immediately reveals a velvety texture, a perfect balance between fresh acidity and fine but present tannins. The power is controlled, with each sip offering a wealth of flavors: black fruits, sweet spices, leather, and licorice. The long and persistent finish lingers with nuances of cedar, tobacco, and a delicate touch of dark chocolate, while a mineral freshness emerges, guaranteeing a beautiful promise of evolution.
This 1999 Mouton Rothschild embodies a rare elegance, controlled power, and depth that will continue to evolve over the years.

Know a bit more about the domain

Château Mouton Rothschild has a history as remarkable as its wine. Located in Pauillac, it is one of the Premiers Grands Crus Classés in 1855. The 1855 classification of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés has only been revised once in its history. This revision took place in 1973, when Château Mouton Rothschild was raised from the rank of Second Growth to First Growth due to the exceptional quality of its wines. Apart from this historic revision, the 1855 classification has remained unchanged since its creation.
Since its acquisition by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, the estate has combined tradition and innovation to establish itself as a model of excellence.
Under the direction of Philippe de Rothschild, the château pioneered the modern approach to wine, introducing bottling on the estate as early as 1924, a move that would mark its commitment to quality. Today, Mouton Rothschild is run by his daughter, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, and then by his son, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, who carry on the family legacy with a vision that respects the environment and a constant quest for perfection.
The estate covers 84 hectares, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, on exceptional soils that produce wines of rare complexity and incomparable finesse. The excellence of the cellar work, combined with scrupulous respect for the terroir, makes each vintage a work of art, a tribute to the history and prestige of Château Mouton Rothschild.
