Domaine Mas Saint Louis - Châteauneuf-du-Pape - 2017 - Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Red wine

Description

The color is a vibrant ruby red, enhanced by subtle purple rims at the edge of the glass, testifying to both its youth and its potential for aging.
Upon opening, the nose seduces with its intense and frank expression. Dominated by fresh morello cherry, the aromatic palette quickly expands with more complex nuances evoking dried fruits, such as fig and lightly toasted almond.
The attack is supple yet generous, displaying ample and well-structured body. The perfectly integrated tannins provide delicate texture without ever overpowering. The palate is harmonious, balanced between freshness and roundness, with a beautiful natural sweetness that prolongs the aromas of ripe, almost jammy red fruits. The finish is long, persistent, and marked by a delightful fruity intensity. A promising wine for laying down, to be enjoyed now for its freshness, or left to mature in the cellar for 5 to 10 years to discover more complex and blended tertiary aromas.

Know a bit more about the domain

The estate was founded over a century ago by Jean-Louis Geniest, heir to a family of coopers and ropemakers active on the banks of the Rhône since the 18th century. In 1909, he acquired the Maison Vigneronne in Châteauneuf-du-Pape to vinify the grapes from his land around Mas Saint-Louis. The winemaking vats, rebuilt at the time, are still in use today.
Jean-Louis's work was continued by his son Gabriel, then by his grandson Louis Geniest (1909-1990), who expanded and restructured the vineyard to form a cohesive estate of over 30 hectares. His son Jean, a renowned lawyer, continued to make it prosper, and today it is managed by his wife, Monique Geniest, with an emphasis on modernization, respect for the soil, and sustainable farming practices.
