Château de Fargues - Lur Saluces - 1962 - Sauternes

White wine

Description

The color is deep amber, with copper and golden highlights. Brilliant and clear, it reveals a beautiful evolution typical of a well-preserved sweet wine.
The nose is complex, marked by aromas of dried apricot, orange marmalade, followed by more evolved notes of forest honey, beeswax, and roasted fig. Light hints of vanilla and saffron reflect the barrel aging and bottle aging.
On the palate, the attack is silky and smooth. The wine unfolds concentrated flavors of candied fruit and citrus peel, then evolves into more tertiary notes of fine caramel, gingerbread, and walnuts.
The balance between residual sugar and acidity is still present, bringing great freshness for a wine over 60 years old. The finish is long, velvety, elegant, marked by a persistence of honey and dried fruits.

Know a bit more about the domain

Château de Fargues is run by Alexandre de Lur Saluces and his son Philippe, who produce an exceptional sweet wine here, applying the same strict viticulture and winemaking rules as at Château d'Yquem, which they previously owned. This estate is a pillar of the Sauternes appellation.
Château de Fargues has belonged to the Lur Saluces family since 1472. The Fargues vineyard was traditionally dedicated to producing red wines for the de Lur Saluces family's personal consumption.
Today, the estate covers 30 hectares and is run by Philippe de Lur Saluces, following the same rigorous principles as at Yquem.
