Know a bit more about the domain

Since the 17th century, the Monteillet estate has belonged to the Villard family, whose most emblematic member was Louis Hector, Duke of Villard and Marshal of France under Louis XIV (1653-1734).

Over the generations, Stéphane Montez's ancestors—winegrowers, bargemen, and coopers—driven by their passion for the Rhône and working the vineyard, gradually acquired plot after plot of the estate's land.

A notarial deed from 1741 testifies to the purchase of a vineyard in Monteillet by Michel, "master carpenter on the Rhône and cooper," Stéphane Montez's ancestor. His descendants continued these acquisitions after the Revolution.
Today, Stéphane Montez continues the family legacy by succeeding his father, Antoine, who passed on his expertise. The Montez family cultivates, vinifies, ages and markets their wines on 48 hectares spread across five appellations.
